Hey everyone, here we are again with another episode! We were so excited to do this episode, because we wanted to dispel myths about cleanses and detox diets. Overall, Frances found that the science was pretty shaky, and Virginia relayed that the medical community does not endorse these types of diets. We covered a lot of ground, and we hope you find the episode helpful!
At the end of the episode, Virginia went through some general health tips to make small changes in your life, rather than doing one of the diets. As promised, here is the list:
For your liver health-
Decrease alcohol use
Lose weight in a healthy way, by making small incremental changes (don't starve yourself)
Get your hepatitis shots (if you due for one, talk with you doctor)
When you are the due for one, get a colonoscopy
For your kidney health-
Try to avoid a lot of NSAIDS
No smoking
Drink more water
Control pre-existing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure with your doctor's guidance
For your health in general-
Try to increase water intake and decrease coffee/milk/juice/soda
Decrease processed foods- shop around the perimeter of the grocery store
Carbs are not the enemy! You need em, in moderation.
Fill you plate with: 1/4 lean protein, 1/4 carbs, >1/4 vegetables, < 1/4 fruits
Exercise weekly
And as always, sources. We have a lot this week!
